A message from the chairperson
Welcome to 2025 – a new year for the Stow Motor Club and a new chairperson
I would like to take the opportunity to thank Paul for being such a great chairperson over the last two and a half years. Thanks to Paul, and the team, the biennial 2024 Stow Motor Club Show, despite the torrential rain, was successful with great exhibitors which meant donations were made to the Cotswold Friends, the Sam Pilcher Trust and soon the PTFA of Stow-On-The-Wold primary school.
For some background on me: I am a car nut – I learnt to drive in my mum’s Maxi 1750 in the field next door.
Since then, I have owned various cars: from a Volvo T5 Wagon featured in the middle pages of the Performance Car Treasure Hunt back in the noughties; A RHD Porsche 964RS which at the time cost £33,000 (should have kept it…); A Lotus 211 (drove to the Le Mans Classic in it – have been to over 22 Le Mans); Competing (crashing in the John Cooper Mini Challenge 2002-2004). I currently run a 1996 Bentley Turbo R (which won the fastest Bentley at the last Brighton Speed Trial which I have competed in 20 times) and a 2020 Yaris GR CP. Anyway less about me and more about the Stow Motor Club.
The raison d‘etre of the club is its members and its excellent set of volunteers both on the committee and in the club. All club members bring a vast repertoire of motoring enthusiasm.
For 2025 there is already the SMC trip to Normandy – late April. I have already recruited some speakers for the year and wish to do more drive outs. But please come forward with your suggestions…We have some of the best driving roads (plus pubs) in the UK. Plus helping and supporting local charities, businesses (some with our custom) as well as focusing on the young locals as we need to get them excited about motors – whilst the Stow Motor Club is for all cars – we need the youngsters to get interested as they are the potential custodians of all our classic cars.
Regards
Pete Brown
The Club meets regularly at the Social Club, Well Lane in Stow. We also host meetings at the Cricket Club on the QEII field in the Summer.
